About SMT
Established in 1995 and administered by The Benecon Group, the Susquehanna Municipal Trust (SMT) provides group self-insured workers’ compensation coverage for public entities and their employees. In response to several years of pricing fluctuations in the fully insured workers’ compensation marketplace, municipalities joined together to share risk, gain transparency, control costs, and experience savings while providing excellent workers’ compensation coverage for public employees. Today, SMT has more than 80+ members.
The SMT Board of Trustees are seven PA municipal managers and administrative leaders elected from the SMT membership. The SMT Board partners with The Benecon Group to provide overall administration of the Trust.
The Trust collaborates with experienced professional consultants to provide superior claims administration, a comprehensive safety and loss control program, legal defense, and independent actuarial and other services.
Highlights of member benefits include low and stable rates, workplace safety training and risk management tools, certified safety committee premium discounts, in-network provider panels, on-site risk management surveys, and return of surplus to members in the form of dividends.
